Mind's Nocturne
By:
Liu, David
A chimera, a mirage, a marvel birthed in the mind,
Resounding with untamed energy; its canvas unfettered and uncharted.
A body in repose, ensnared on a realm's line,
Feeling the bed’s embrace and the dream's whirlwind intertwined.
Suddenly omnipotent, in unparalleled control, painting with stringing cold of dreaming snow,
Steering an orchestra brimming with sublime colors, a landscape in a slumbering creator's hands.
---
A wraith, a specter, a phantasm from the crevices of the subconscious,
Overpowering the wild fervor; its canvas colored with dread and apprehension.
The body immobile, in futile resistance,
Caught in the nebulous fog of fear, suffocated by endless dread.
Immensely powerless, left exposed, at the mercy of a malevolent director,
Orchestrating echoes of defeat, of being hunted, of all that unsettles and stirs.
---
A reverie, a lullaby, a tenderness crafted with unbroken thoughts,
Its canvas vivacious, delightful, and overflowing with wishful illusions.
A body tender, blissfully unaware,
Of the real world that once was, but now a fading suggestion in the air.
Immersed in a spectacle, anticipating every gesture with fond desires, dreams so perfect,
Of feast of joy, of love's sweet sigh, of boundless flights beneath a starlit canvas.
---
A wisp, a memory, a shade of the mind's theater,
Glistening with vestiges of radiance; its warmth waning yet cherished.
The body, awaking to simplicity, savoring remnants of the sweet nectar of the night,
Yet powerless to chain the fleeting fantasy, to cage within recall the whispers of a somnolent confusion.
---
A tinge of sorrow, for the paradise lost to the dawn;
Eternally nostalgic, for the gossamer realm that once was;
Yet ever hopeful, for the magic that tonight may spawn.

Deciduous Trees and Fire Hydrants
The poem compares life's transient nature, symbolized by deciduous trees and stationary fire hydrants, to human experiences of fleeting happiness and enduring melancholy. It emphasizes the beauty of genuinely feeling, remembering, and cherishing moments, especially amid loss and sadness.
