to those that remain far apart
By:
Liu, David
To those far apart,
overwhelming considerations tethered to raw emotion, rifts of universes exacerbated under bitter duress, stars radiant amidst stygian nights.
To the hearts ever near,
sprinting in the recesses of delirious minds, feverish awareness and flushed cheeks but mere evanescent specters, fantasies abruptly recoiling before sober realities.
To the tears in silence,
futile fixations straying from once-cherished aspirations, divergent sentiments drawing warring arrays of furious chariots, incandescent battlefields awash with renewed fervor.
And to those that remain,
restrained dialogue in an idyllic landscape, yet ponder the cataracts and torrents beneath sealed wells, steering ephemeral winds so distant and dear.
Other Works
Deciduous Trees and Fire Hydrants
The poem compares life's transient nature, symbolized by deciduous trees and stationary fire hydrants, to human experiences of fleeting happiness and enduring melancholy. It emphasizes the beauty of genuinely feeling, remembering, and cherishing moments, especially amid loss and sadness.
